On September 27, the first TV debate between an incumbent president and a challenger was held, when President Ford and Jimmy Carter squared off. Don Bolles, an investigative journalist for the Arizona Republic who was probing the role of leading politicians in land swindles, died on June 13 after his car was bombed in Phoenix, Arizona. |
